Why do I need a consultation since I already had a consult with my dentist?
Dr. Haltom needs to meet with you to go over your health history, x-rays, and discuss anesthesia options.
What kinds of foods can I eat after having oral surgery?
A soft foods diet is recommended after surgery. Avoid hot foods and hot drinks the day of surgery until numbness is gone.
Can I brush my teeth after surgery?
Yes, you can brush your teeth after surgery. Just avoid the extraction sites with your toothbrush, but clean as close as you can without hitting sutures.
Will I be asleep for my procedure?
If you are healthy and choose to have general anesthesia, you will be completely asleep.
I had surgery a couple of days ago. Why is my face still swollen?
It is common to have swelling after having a tooth extracted. Apply ice to the area for 24 hours following surgery. Sleep and rest with your head elevated to reduce swelling. Late onset of swelling with increased pain should be reported to Dr. Haltom’s office.
How do I know if I develop dry socket?
Dry socket will occur when the clot forming in the extraction site dislodges, and you may feel a throbbing pain. Call the office and set up an appointment. We have treatment for dry socket.
